As Changents describes it, change agents are the rock stars of social good and the cause-driven, media-based social network exists to connect these guys with their fans. Changents helps change agents (people who want to do good) find with backers (supporters).
Description:
The Changents web site enables activists and do-gooders to broadcast their stories, tell friends (and complete stranger on the web, all over the world) about why they’re behind a certain cause, and mobilize help. They can do this through videos, photos, podcasts, music and other vehicles. Changents.com also allows visitors to nominate change agents in their community to the site.
Members of the Changents community can view, share and comment on change agents stories, and answer posted challenges, or action requests — such as helping someone in Chicago spread the word about his campaign to help the homeless, or sponsoring a filmmaker so he can take his documentary on climate change to a United Nations conference in Copenhagen, or someone else who is swimming the Atlantic from Boston to D.C. to promote ocean health. And you can follow the impact of an initiative on the community through Changents tracking and visualization technology called The Ripple.
Right now, for its partnership with Timberland Earthkeepers, Changents is encouraging members to select widgets of “Earthkeeper Hero” nominees — such as the Boston-to-D.C. swimmer — to post on social network profiles and blogs. If Changents can get 100,000 supporters for these “Heroes” by Nov. 1, 2009, the organization is promising a stunt where members can take action to help get the winning “Earthkeeper Hero” on TV for his or her eco-action.
Changents has joined in other partnerships/sponsorships, such as one in March with the city of Boston and Down2Earth, a green-living expo.
